The journey of AfreGov
The 2nd edition, AfreGov 2026, will be held on 2nd–3rd December 2026 at the Tayo Aderinokun Conference Centre, University of Lagos, Nigeria, under the theme “Building Africa through Artificial Intelligence for Public Service Innovation.” It brings together senior public-service officials, policymakers, academics, technology leaders and development partners to examine how Artificial Intelligence can be harnessed deliberately and responsibly to build stronger institutions, more capable public services and more inclusive societies across the continent.
This initiative draws from the objectives and vision of African leaders articulated in Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU) on ‘The Africa We Want’ as well as the United Nation’s Agenda 2030 on “Leave No One Behind”. The AfreGov Conference Initiative is therefore a movement towards a digital Africa for the actualization of both Agendas.
AfreGov began as an annual conference and the first edition was held in Kigali, Rwanda, between the 12th and 14th of March 2024, and it has since expanded beyond a conference into a movement.
Our mission
To bring together decision makers, strategists, academics, policy implementers, donors as well as development partners to connect, collaborate and coordinate the framewrok, roadmap and monitoring of pathways into the future of digital governance on the continent as the intersection of technology, governance, and development in Africa.
Our vision
A trusted continental platform where ideas are converted into knowledge, knowledge is translated into policy, policy is converted into institutional action, and institutional action produces measurable development outcomes — a platform for public-service leaders, policymakers, scholars, researchers, technology innovators and development practitioners to collectively shape an African pathway for harnessing digital technology for institutional transformation.
